Laser Therapy

Therapeutic laser is a wavelength of light that interacts underlying tissues and cells through a process called photobiomodulation. Laser is actually an acronym that stands for- Light amplification of stimulated emission of radiation. When a specific therapeutic wavelength of light interacts with the target tissue, light is absorbed, resulting in biological effects such as, Oxygen production, ATP synthesis, and changes in membrane permeability. These effects can lead to physiologic responses like tissue healing, increased blood flow, decreases in pain and inflammation.
At West Delray Veterinary, we integrate laser into many of our medical, surgical, dental, and rehabilitation protocols. Indications and Uses of Laser Therapy Include:

Integrative or Alternative Cancer Care

Cancer is a broad term that encompasses a wide variety of disease processes, originating from different areas of the body. Unfortunately, just like in human medicine, cancer rates in our domestic pet population is quite high- 25% of all dogs, and greater than 50% of dogs over 10 years of age will get cancer of some form.
The treatment goals for treating cancer in pets is often focused on maintaining overall quality of life for as long as possible. Sometimes, even with advances in medicine, this is not easily accomplished with conventional chemotherapy and radiation. At West Delray Veterinary, we offer integrative and alternative approaches to managing cancer. We can work together with Veterinary Oncologists, or if conventional treatment is not an option, we offer complimentary and alternative therapies to slow disease progression and maintain overall comfort and quality of life.
